Polinger Shannon & Luchs Company and its properties are committed to supporting the Green movement. The Company recognizes the importance of caring for our environment. We educate our employees and the people who live in and visit our communities on what we can do to contribute to bettering the environment. Currently, each property is replacing (or has replaced) all apartment shower heads, faucets and toilets with low flow devices. Also we have/or will be replacing incandescent lighting with fluorescent or compact florescent light bulbs. All chemicals used for cleaning etc. in the common areas are environmentally safe wherever possible. And finally, we are designing designated recycling areas at each of our apartment communities.

WHY RECYCLE?

It’s the law in Montgomery County. Recycling contributes to a cleaner and healthier environment, conserves energy, saves precious natural resources and reduces the amount of solid waste sent to disposal facilities.

This is Montgomery County’s goal. In order to meet this ambitious goal, we must work together - all residents, businesses and government throughout the County.

More than 30% of the County’s households live in multi-family dwellings. We can only achieve this goal if properties like yours help - by reducing waste, recycling and buying recycled.

The best way to reduce waste is not to create it in the first place. If waste is prevented, there is no need or cost for the collection, processing and disposal.

TIPS FOR Reducing waste:

• Buy products made with recycled content.
• Donate usable clothing, furniture, and other goods.
• Rent, share or borrow items not used frequently.
• Buy concentrates or items in bulk.
• Buy durable and reusable products vs. disposable items.
• Buy less packaged items.
• When shopping, bring reusable bags.
• Choose products that are packaged in materials that can be recycled in Montgomery County - check the what to recycle page (www.montgomerycountymd.gov).

Did you know?

• Lighting accounts for nearly 25% of total energy costs in the home or office.
• Fluorescent light bulbs consume 75% less electricity, last 4-15 times longer, and generate 74% less heat than incandescent bulbs.
• For every ton of paper that is recycled, we save 7,000 gallons of water, 380 gallons of oil, and enough electricity to power an average house for six months.
• You can run a TV for six hours on the amount of electricity that is saved by recycling one aluminum can.
• By recycling just one glass bottle, you save enough electricity to power a 100-watt bulb for four hours.
• According to the Environmental Protection Agency, a faucet dripping at one drop per second wastes 2,700 gallons per year.
